Man Wants His 10-Years-Old Dogs to Be Euthanized Because of His Girlfriend

It is a well known fact that dogs are the only animals who love their humans more than they love themselves. Waiting for the owners at the front door to get back home, wagging their tails whenever they see them, and treating them with bunch of licks are just few of the things that make dogs the ideal pets.

Having them around means having a friend for life. However, the sad reality is that no matter how much they love us, people sometimes decide to get rid of them and kick them out. When this happens, the dogs’ world turns upside down in an instant. They can never understand why the person they love the most isn’t by their side any longer, and it breaks their heart.

Recently, we stumbled upon the story of two beautiful canines who were brought to the vet to be euthanized. The reason why is so absurd that we somehow feel relieved Cosmo, a lab-mix, and Sam, a pointer, are no longer living with their previous owner.

Namely, this man had them for 10 years and now he thought “convenience euthanasia” was the answer just because his new girlfriend was allergic to them and didn’t really like them.

Convenience euthanasia is when an owner brings in their healthy pet to be euthanized because they no longer fit in their lives.

Penny Emerson, president of Begin Again Rescue Co, told The (Northwest Indiana) Times, “Apparently there was a change in his life plans, and they weren’t a part of that. It was really sad.”

One of the vets from the clinic said, “None of us want to end a pet’s life unless it is to prevent suffering,” so they didn’t proceed with the owner’s request. They reached out to Begin Again Rescue and let them take the pups in.

The dogs were way too attached to one another which meant they should be placed with the same family.

Peoples Animal Welfare Society in Tinley Park, Illinois knew it wasn’t going to be an easy task, but they never lost hope or stopped searching.

The dogs were eventually adopted by a family who fell in love with them the moment they’ve heard their story. The dogs are now perfect addition to the family of Eric and Tiffany Dybas who suffered the loss of their loving pup.

Cosmo and Sam are now enjoying their new life and all the luxuries. They get to run around the big yard and sleep in their owners’ bed.

“The reasons pet owners have given for ‘convenience euthanasia’ include moving, getting new furniture, shedding, divorce, job loss, property damage or the owners not wanting the responsibilities that come with pet ownership,” states veterinarian Dr. Matt Cantrell.

Luckily, this cruel practice declines over the years as people become aware they can no longer treat animals as though they are stuff they no longer need. Many vets won’t do that either. Instead, they would call the local shelter and increase the animal’s chances of being adopted in the near future.
